Bespoke Eagle Ottawa leather crafted for 1949 Cadillac Coupe de Ville.

Eagle Ottawa honored to play a part in restoration of one-of-a-kind Cadillac Coupe de Ville.

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., USA – July 28, 2013 – Eagle Ottawa, one of the world’s oldest leather suppliers, is proud to sponsor the display of the 1949 Cadillac Coupe de Ville at the Concours d’Elegance of America at St John’s, in Plymouth, Michigan. The one-of-a-kind automobile features a replica of the unique leather Eagle Ottawa supplied to the original, from its pearlescent, gunmetal color to its supple feel.

In early 2012, the car collector Steve Plunkett discovered that the classic Cadillac he was restoring had been originally outfitted with Eagle Ottawa leather. A team made of Eagle Ottawa designers, scientists and artisans worked together to replicate the luxuriousness of the original and resurrect the feel of opulence the car brought to enthusiasts 64 years ago. “The creation of this custom leather started with premium hides, then enhanced by our proprietary crusting process to create a soft hand and fine pebble appearance”, says Nathan Mullinix, VP Global Product Development and Innovation, “The key to its natural appearance is a semi-translucent finish that lets its true beauty shine through.”

The Cadillac Coupe de Ville, a prototype gifted to former General Motors CEO upon his departure to serve as Secretary of Defense in 1953, was displayed for the first time at the Waldorf-Astoria Motorama in 1949. It disappeared from public eye until shown at Amelia Island in March 2013 and will be shown under the Eagle Ottawa/Plunkett tent at the Concours d’Elegance at St John’s in Plymouth on July 28, 2013.
